The whales exhibition was one of the largest and most ambitious Te Papa has embarked on.  Pelorus was engaged to take the exhibition designers’ concepts and make them buildable, without losing any of the freshness of the concepts. It was particularly challenging in this case, because the whole exhibition had to be designed to be demounted, packed into boxes (also purpose designed) and shipped around the world for reassembly – the exhibition is travelling to a series of international venues. Pelorus’ work on this project was based on long experience with careful detailing of joinery, and has resulted in ongoing work detailing exhibition designs, both at Te Papa and elsewhere.
